The Actors Centre, in association with Otherland, are proud to announce the participating productions in the next season of the John Thaw Initiative. The season will run from April to June 2019, and comprise 16 productions over 35 performance dates.
The John Thaw Initiative offers a platform for artists to take creative risks and achieve vital feedback with work still in development without any financial pressure. Previous seasons have included the Mental Health Season, where each show explored an area of mental health, and was followed by a discussion and Q&A with invited guests; the Graduate Season, which selected the very best submisisons from students graduating from drama schools across the country, and gave many of these actors their first professional credit; and the Blacktress UK season, offering opportunities exclusively for women of the African diasopra, and curated in association with the fabulous Blacktress UK.
Curators of The Queer Season, Ross O’Donnellan and Georgia Frost (Otherland Co-Founders), sought to create a platform for the queer community right in the centre of London. Working with The Actors Centre, a place where diversity and creativity are supported, the season will be a celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community, with a focus on helping queer voices develop and share their work- whatever the nature of the material.
