The TBT is a venue for new work, work in progress and groundbreaking experiments.
The artistic policy reflects the mission of The Actors Centre, where training of performers coexists with the making of new work.
The TBT is a launchpad for the talent we discover and we make relationships with other organisations, producers and theatres to give further life to the work we present.
We provide actors, writers and directors with a space in which they can test new ideas and be daring, at a time when the industry demands quick results on tight budgets, ie safe choices and tame product.
We look for projects that
- make new demands of the actor
- tell stories that make sense of the contemporary world
- rethink form and structure
- speak to new audiences
- use language in distinctive ways
- give a voice to the characters we don’t usually hear
Our production values are far from lavish but the work is lively, unexpected and trailblazing. The emphasis is on keeping our ticket prices low to attract a unique mix of local residents, fellow practitioners and movers and shakers from the industry. We cultivate a relaxed and stimulating dialogue between audience and performers in the bar after the show.
