‘Mam, I can’t keep fighting. I don’t want to fight you as well.’
Derby day, 1913. Suffragette Emily Wilding Davison steps onto the racecourse and within seconds two lives are changed forever.
The Militant is celebrated as a martyr to the Cause, whilst the King’s jockey appears to escape without injury. From the pomp and circumstance of Emily’s funeral to an almost forgotten anniversary in 1951 the play explores the many intertwining stories before and after that fateful Derby day.
